This art installation was a collaboration between Waterways Ireland and the Bureau+ Studio of NCAD. These illustrations are my contributions to the exhibition. We were tasked with creating our own contemporary Zibaldone style illustrations or a miscellany of observations of the beautiful resources to be found along the canals of Ireland. My illustrations focused on the cultural heritage of The Grand Canal, I decided to focus on its link to poet Patrick Kavanagh, who was known for his love of walking along the canal. He wrote, “Lines Written on a Seat on the Grand Canal, Dublin” a poem in which he requests that he be celebrates the beauty and tranquility of the canal. I decided to illustrate a line from that poem for my first illustration. For my second illustration I decided to focus on the plants which can be foraged along the Grand Canal and The Royal Canal.
